Community Mourns the Loss

The tragic death of a teenage boy who was hit by a car near the Cherry Tree pub in Colchester has left the community in mourning. The collision occurred at around 9.20pm on Mersea Road, and despite the efforts of emergency services and hospital medics, the young boy succumbed to his injuries.

Local residents and authorities have been left shocked and saddened by the incident. Councillor for Shrub End and Berechurch, Dave Harris, expressed his devastation, stating, “I am absolutely devastated, this is a good community and to have news like this about one of our young people is awful. My heart goes out to the family, I can’t imagine what they’re going through.”

The community has come together to support the family of the victim during this difficult time. Several people who live along Mersea Road have provided CCTV footage to the police to assist with their investigation. Councillor Harris has been advocating for traffic calming measures and a crossing in the area, but these efforts have been previously rejected by highways due to insufficient justification based on average speed.
