Exploring the Scenic Pumpkin Patch Run in Colchester

Runners from all over north Essex gathered at Foxes Farm Produce on Halstead Road in Colchester for a unique running experience through a picturesque pumpkin patch. The event offered routes of varying lengths, including a 10k, 5k, and 1k, catering to runners of all abilities. Participants were treated to stunning views of the fields, pumpkin patch, and corn maze as they navigated the mostly flat, traffic-free tracks.

A Labor of Love: The Story Behind Foxes Farm Produce

The pumpkin patch run was the brainchild of Guy and Emily French, the founders of Foxes Farm Produce. Established in 2007, the farm has been a labor of love for the couple, who share a passion for running. Prior to the pandemic, they frequently organized mud runs on the farm grounds, welcoming runners to enjoy the scenic routes.

Emily French reflected on the farm’s evolution, stating, “We opened the fields to the public for the first time a decade ago, becoming the first ‘pick your own’ pumpkin patch in Essex. We realized that we were fortunate to run through the fields ourselves, and we wanted to share that experience with others.”

A Splash of Orange: Embracing the Pumpkin Patch Theme

Many runners embraced the pumpkin patch theme by dressing in vibrant shades of orange for the event. The sight of runners clad in orange hues added a festive touch to the run, creating a visually striking scene against the backdrop of the giant orange pumpkins and winding corn maze. Despite the looming threat of rain, the weather held out, allowing participants to fully immerse themselves in the experience.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Emily French shared, “It was a great turnout, and just in time for our pumpkin patch opening to the public this weekend. It’s wonderful to see people enjoying the fields in a new way.”

As the pumpkin patch prepares to reopen on Saturday, October 6, Foxes Farm Produce is gearing up for a series of special spooky pumpkin picking days. Visitors can look forward to a range of activities, including food stalls, a licensed bar, and spooky actors roaming the grounds. For those seeking a unique Halloween experience, the farm promises a memorable outing for families and thrill-seekers alike.
