Two individuals, Sonny Loveridge and Jimbilly Loveridge, were sentenced to more than 14 years in prison for robbing a post office in Suffolk armed with hammers. The incident took place in Wickhambrook at closing time on February 25, 2023.
Sonny Loveridge, a 26-year-old residing in Wilburton, Cambridgeshire, confessed to the Suffolk robbery along with additional charges of attempted robbery in Manea, Cambridgeshire, and causing death by dangerous driving while under the influence of alcohol. His accomplice, John Hayden, 36, attempted to demand money from the staff but they left empty-handed when the employees locked themselves behind the tills. Loveridge then drove Hayden away, resulting in a car crash near Chatteris where Hayden tragically lost his life.
As a consequence, Sonny Loveridge was sentenced to a total of eight years and 11 months in prison and was prohibited from driving for 15 years and 10 months. On the other hand, Jimbilly Loveridge, 33, residing in Maldon, Essex, received a six-year jail term for his involvement in the Wickhambrook robbery.
Both individuals were apprehended, charged, and brought to Peterborough Crown Court for sentencing on November 1. PC Connor Shaw, who oversaw the Wickhambrook case, commended the victims for their resilience and quick thinking, which played a crucial role in identifying the suspects and securing their conviction. The victims’ actions were instrumental in ensuring that justice was served in this traumatic incident.
