Essex Community Wellbeing Officers, Keaton Eccles and Oliver Ingrouille, recently had a heartwarming reunion with a woman named Jade whom they saved earlier this year in Colchester. The incident took place at Lion Walk shopping centre, where Jade collapsed and stopped breathing, prompting nearby staff and passersby to call 999 for help.

Ollie and Keaton, along with ambulance crews and the air ambulance, quickly arrived at the scene and administered life-saving CPR to Jade. Their prompt response was instrumental in saving her life. It was later discovered that Jade had CPVT, a serious heart condition that can be fatal, especially in young individuals.

Jade expressed her gratitude towards Keaton and Ollie, acknowledging that without their intervention, she might not have been alive today. She emphasized the impact their actions had on her life and her family, stating that her son would have lost his mother if not for them.

As part of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service’s partnership with the East of England Ambulance Service Trust, Ollie and Keaton respond to various emergency calls, including cardiac arrests and Home Safety Visits to assist vulnerable residents. Reflecting on the reunion with Jade, they described the experience as surreal and expressed their appreciation for being able to contribute to her survival.

In an effort to raise awareness about the importance of knowing life-saving skills, Lion Walk Shopping Centre organized a free public event for Restart A Heart Day. The event featured CPR demonstrations and instructions on using defibrillators, highlighting the significance of taking quick and decisive actions during emergencies.

The reunion between Jade, Keaton, and Ollie serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that first responders can have on individuals’ lives. It underscores the importance of being prepared to respond effectively in emergency situations, as demonstrated by the actions of these dedicated officers. Their commitment to saving lives and ensuring the well-being of their community is truly commendable.
