Tributes are pouring in for the late Beryl McBride, a remarkable woman who lived a full life and passed away at the age of 103 in Clacton. Beryl, a WWII veteran, was known for her strength, independence, and love for her family.
Born in 1921 in North London, Beryl joined the army at the age of 20 during the war, where she became a radar operator in Scotland. It was during her time in the army that she met her future husband, Bill, whom she married on her birthday in 1945. After leaving the army, Beryl worked as a seamstress, making undergarments for notable figures such as Princess Marina and Prime Minister David Lloyd George.
In the 1980s, Beryl and her family moved to Clacton, where she lived independently and enjoyed her hobbies of snooker and word searches. She celebrated her 100th birthday in 2021 with a card from Queen Elizabeth II, showcasing her longevity and vitality.
Beryl’s granddaughter, Kelly Clark, described her as a kind, loving, and strong woman who always had a thirst for life. She was a constant presence in Kelly’s life, caring for her and her siblings and always making delicious treats like crumble. Beryl’s family, which includes two children, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild, Dorothy, will miss her dearly.
Despite the loss, Beryl’s family is choosing to celebrate her life and the incredible legacy she left behind. Lola Garlick, Beryl’s great-granddaughter, expressed gratitude for having such a remarkable woman in her life and shared fond memories of their time together.
As Beryl’s family prepares to say their final goodbyes at her funeral, they are comforted by the knowledge that she lived a long, fulfilling life and is now reunited with loved ones who have passed before her. Beryl’s passing marks the end of an era, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
