Nine-year-old Oscar Gilmore from Clacton is going above and beyond to spread Christmas cheer this holiday season. Inspired by the Tendring Police Christmas Tree Appeal, Oscar has taken on the challenge of running 100km in the month of October to raise funds for children in need.

The Christmas Tree Appeal, now in its fifth year, aims to ensure that every child receives a present during the holiday season, especially those who may not have the means to do so otherwise. For Oscar, this cause hits close to home, and he wanted to do more than just donate his pocket money this year.

Oscar, a student at Engaines Primary School, shared, “To begin with, I used to save my pocket money to buy a gift for the appeal, but this year I really had to do more. I have decided to run 100km over the month of October to try and raise funds to help buy more gifts.”

His determination and dedication have not gone unnoticed. Oscar’s parents, Nikki and his dad, are extremely proud of his efforts. Nikki mentioned, “He has currently run 67.3km. Myself and Oscar’s dad are so extremely proud of him.”

Through his GoFundMe campaign, Oscar has already surpassed his initial goal of £500, raising an impressive £1,326 to date. These funds will directly contribute to purchasing gifts for children in need across the district, ensuring that they have a brighter holiday season.

Oscar is not stopping at 67.3km, as he is committed to completing the full 100km and is calling on the community for additional support. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference in spreading joy to those less fortunate this Christmas.

If you would like to support Oscar’s Christmas Appeal and help make a difference in the lives of children in need, donations can be made on his GoFundMe page. Your contribution will go a long way in bringing smiles to families who may be facing challenges during the holiday season. Let’s come together as a community to support Oscar in his mission to make a positive impact this Christmas.
