So, like, students at Perth High School got this cool chance to check out all the different jobs you can do in the railway industry during Scottish Apprenticeship Week. It was hosted by Network Rail, and they had these two former Perth High students, Ross Moran and Clare Farrell, come back to talk about their careers and all the apprenticeship options out there.

Ross and Clare chatted with S4, S5, and S6 students about what they do at Network Rail and all the different apprenticeship programs they offer. They’re looking to recruit 38 apprentices in Scotland, including some in Perth, to find the next generation of railway pros.

Ross, who’s in charge of making sure everything runs smoothly on Scotland’s rail network, was all about how apprenticeships can help you climb the career ladder faster. He said, “It was awesome to come back to my old school and show students how an apprenticeship can lead to a successful career in the railway industry. With so many opportunities with one of the UK’s biggest organizations, apprenticeships are a rad way for young people to grow their skills.”

Clare, who makes sure train services are safe and reliable, also talked about all the different jobs you can do at Network Rail. She said, “There are over 400 roles you can choose from—like engineering, business, finance, and IT—so there’s something for everyone. Coming back to Perth High and getting students excited about working in rail was a real honor.”

Scottish Apprenticeship Week happened from March 3 to 7, and it’s all about showing how important apprenticeships are in building a skilled workforce. Mary Campbell, a careers advisor at Perth High School for Skills Development Scotland, thought the event was super helpful. She said, “Learning about all the different apprenticeship options at Network Rail was awesome. The session really helped students see the different career paths they could take in engineering, construction, and business roles.”

For S5 student Seamus Scott, the event was totally inspiring. He said, “I’ve always been interested in trains, especially since I grew up near the line between Perth and Dundee. Hearing from the Network Rail team about their careers and apprenticeships got me really pumped.”

The session highlighted how important it is to connect young people with industry leaders and show them all the cool career opportunities in Scotland’s Railway.
