The recent fire at Burrsville Public Hall in Gorse Lane has been determined to be arson by the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, following the release of new dramatic images depicting the aftermath of the incident.
Fire crews responded to the scene at 11.07pm on Sunday evening, where they found the fire primarily contained within the hall’s storage sheds. However, the flames also spread to nearby fencing and a shed belonging to a neighboring property. The fire caused damage to a rear door that will require replacement, as well as a section of the gable end that had previously been repaired.
Images from the site reveal the extent of the damage, with debris scattered across the floor of the hall’s sheds. The sight is a stark reminder of the devastation caused by the fire, reminiscent of a similar incident that occurred almost a year ago on March 30, 2024, when Burrsville Public Hall was engulfed in flames.
During last year’s fire, the interior of the hall suffered significant damage, and the exterior decking was also heavily impacted. Despite efforts to restore the hall earlier this year, progress has been slow, and Councillor Peter Kotz of Tendring District Council acknowledges that this latest incident will further delay the building’s reopening.
A spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue provided insight into the response to the recent fire, stating, “We were called to a fire at Burrsville Public Hall, Gorse Lane, Clacton, on Sunday. Crews from Clacton and Weeley worked swiftly to extinguish the fire affecting the hall roof and two sheds by 12.33am. The cause of the fire has been determined as deliberate.”
