The upcoming Remembrance Sunday in Colchester will be a solemn occasion to honor the servicemen and women who have sacrificed their lives for others. The ceremony will take place on November 10 at 10.45am at the War Memorial on the High Street.

The event will be attended by the 16 Air Assault Brigade and civic dignitaries such as the Deputy Lieutenant of Essex and the Mayor of Colchester. A 105mm Light Gun from the 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery will mark the start and end of the two-minute silence at 11am.

Mayor Lesley Scott-Boutell emphasized the importance of reflecting on the bravery of the fallen soldiers and striving for peace and understanding among nations, especially in times of conflict. The absence of a marching band at this year’s event was confirmed earlier this month.

Lieutenant Colonel Ed Rankin, Commander of Colchester Garrison, urged everyone to join in remembering the sacrifices made by those who have served their country. The strong bond between Colchester and its soldiers is highlighted during Remembrance Sunday, showing support for the military in their efforts to protect the nation.

After the service, there will be a parade along the High Street led by the guns of 7 Para RHA, soldiers from the 16 Air Assault Brigade, veterans, and youth organizations. The High Street will be closed to traffic from 8am to 1pm with diversions in place to accommodate the parade.

In addition to Remembrance Sunday, on Armistice Day, November 11, Mayor Scott-Boutell will lead a two-minute silence at 11am on the steps of Colchester Town Hall to further pay respects to the fallen soldiers.

These events provide an opportunity for the community to come together and honor the memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. It is a time to reflect on the past and look towards a future of peace and unity among nations. Let us all stand together in remembrance and respect for our heroes.
