A 27-year-old HGV driver, Ruaridh Allan from Galashiels, was fined £300 at Selkirk Sheriff Court for assaulting his partner after a night out. The incident occurred on December 26 on Melrose Road, where Allan pulled his partner by the hair, kicked her on the body, and punched her in the face.

According to Depute fiscal India McLean, the couple had an argument which led to Allan’s violent outburst. When the police arrived at the scene, they observed redness on the victim’s face, and Allan was subsequently cautioned and charged.

During the court proceedings, Allan’s defense lawyer, Ross, mentioned that his client was deeply remorseful for his actions. He explained that Allan had consumed alcohol that night but has since stopped drinking.

In addition to the fine, Allan was also required to pay a £20 victim surcharge as part of his sentence.
