This week in Colchester, there are some exciting events and shows happening that you won’t want to miss.
First up, Freya Beer will be headlining at Three Wise Monkeys on Sunday. Her new EP Tatianna features singles inspired by a fictional femme fatale, exploring themes of dreams and fame. Supported by Flores Blue and Hibiscus Haze, this is sure to be a great night of music. Doors open at 7.30pm, and tickets are £10.
On Tuesday, don’t miss Tokyo-based KRUELTY at Colchester Arts Centre. Known for fusing beatdown hardcore with ’90s death/doom metal, their live set is expected to be crushing. Celestial Sanctuary and Slimelord will be there to support. Doors open at 7.30pm, and tickets are £16.50.
Wednesday evening marks the start of Christmas celebrations in the city centre. The Festive Light Parade will bring dazzling, larger-than-life puppets to the High Street, ending at Firstsite. Lion Walk’s Courtyard will have performances by Jupiter Ray, Yazmin Wood, and more, leading up to the Christmas Lights Switch On at 7.30pm. Expect street food, live music, and a festive atmosphere. The fun starts at 5.30pm.
On Thursday, Nottingham-based looping artist Warren Ireland will be at Coda to celebrate the release of his album, The Highs and Lows of Being Normal. With intricate guitar playing, dominating vocals, and dexterous beatboxing, this is set to be a great show. Sticky Bones and Daniel Stephen Turner will be providing support. Doors open at 7pm, and advance tickets are £8 online or £10 at the door.
Finally, on Friday, head to Queen Street Brewhouse for the Jazz Gig and Jam. Enjoy the sounds of Zak Barrett on sax, Simon Hurley on guitar, Simon Wood on double bass, and Elmer Van Der Hoek on drums. Entry is free from 8.30pm, and there will be a jam session starting at 10pm. Donations are welcome to support the musicians.
