Residents Express Dismay
Anne Jonas, a 58-year-old peer worker in a mental health unit, did not mince words when sharing her thoughts. She expressed, “I think the American politicians seem to be saying more and more crazy things. What’s coming out of America doesn’t seem to be real anymore. This is so disrespectful to the veterans.”
Colin Innes, a 45-year-old part-time lecturer, emphasized the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by those in the military. He remarked, “I think these sorts of comments are useless, uncalled for sure, but they don’t know what they are speaking about.”
Emma Moyle, a retired business owner, recounted a poignant encounter she had, highlighting the real-life impact of war. She shared, “I just saw a person in Primark. He was a veteran and he had no legs. That is his contribution to the wars. I was looking to volunteer with the Colchester Veterans Society as well, and these comments are insulting.”

She expressed, “Colchester itself is so full of veterans, and I do not at all approve of such comments thrown out. It was absolutely uncalled for.”
