The investigation into the death of baby Hailey Thompson in a Colchester flat earlier this year has been closed by the police, according to a coroner’s report.
Hailey, who was just five months old, was found unresponsive on April 2 and was rushed to Colchester Hospital where attempts were made to resuscitate her. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at 7:16 am.
Despite a post-mortem examination conducted by Dr. Virginia Fitzpatrick Swallow, the exact cause of Hailey’s death remains unconfirmed.
Initially, a police investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child. However, this investigation has now been discontinued.
Residents of Seatrade House, where Hailey and her family were staying in temporary accommodation, expressed their relief that the criminal investigation has concluded. One resident mentioned that the turnover of people in the block of flats is quite high, as it is temporary housing, and he empathized with the parents of the deceased baby.
Another resident shared her shock upon hearing the news of Hailey’s death back in April, emphasizing how upsetting it is for anyone to hear about the death of a baby.
While the police investigation has been closed, a documentary inquest is scheduled to take place at a later date to further examine the circumstances surrounding Hailey’s tragic death.
