empowering-women-1000-raised-in-five-mile-walk

So, like, this social walking group? They did this thing where they raised over a grand by walking five miles for a charity that helps people dealing with domestic abuse. How cool is that?

So, Walk N Talk is this group for women in Colchester that started last September. And get this, in just seven months, they went from zero to 1,200 members! That’s a lot of ladies, from 18 to 90 years old, all coming together to walk and talk.

Rebecca Woolf, who’s 48, started the group to create a space where women could support each other and get healthier physically and mentally. She’s a real gem, that one. And the charity they raised money for, Next Chapter, helps people dealing with domestic violence in Colchester. Rebecca and others in the group have had experiences with domestic violence, so it was a cause close to their hearts.

On Sunday, 35 women from the group got together to walk five miles and ended up raising £1,185! That’s a lot of dough, if you ask me. Rebecca was over the moon with how generous everyone was. They walked 2.5 miles, stopped for a break at the Castle Café, and then walked the rest of the way back.

The ladies had a blast and raised over a grand for Next Chapter. They even wore special shirts for the occasion. It was a real success, and Rebecca couldn’t be prouder of the group. They really smashed their fundraising goal.

Walk N Talk is always getting new members, and they’re not just walking. They’re also doing things like picking up litter and planning coffee mornings with nursing homes. Rebecca is all about coming up with new ideas and seeing where things go. She’s all about that natural growth, you know?

Next Chapter says that domestic abuse makes up 40% of all violent crime in Essex. That’s a pretty big number, if you ask me. The charity offers free and confidential services to help people who are going through or have gone through domestic abuse. They give emotional support and help survivors make plans to leave their abusers.

So, all in all, it was a great day for the ladies of Walk N Talk. They raised a bunch of money, had a good walk, and supported a really important cause. Not really sure why this matters, but it’s nice to see people coming together to help others. Can’t wait to see what they do next.
